Content marketing is nothing new. There were many content marketing books published in the late 1990s, but the one that really changed the industry was Richard Branson’s A New Marketing Road Map, published in 1998. In it he laid out a roadmap for content marketing that has become the model for many content marketing books today. I think most people (including you) probably remember the title of the most recent book for digital marketers – Digital Marketing for Dummies, published in 1999.
Now, I know that there are many other books on content marketing, but I think that the one that really changed the digital marketing industry was Richard Bransons A New Marketing Road Map. The book was published in 1999. So I’m sure most people remember the title, but it’s definitely not one of my favorites. In fact, I think there are just a few readers who will enjoy this book, but most of them aren’t content marketing professionals. This book is mostly aimed at a general audience and is a great introduction to content marketing, as well as a great primer on how to build a successful website.
I think content marketing is a great idea, but you have to be careful of the title “content marketing dummies”. Most people will probably feel that it is a great book, but they will also look at the title and think, “Well, it’s like a book, isnt it?” The problem is that it is not a “book”, it is content marketing.
The problem is that the title is almost the worst part of the book, and it is what people will most likely ignore. This is because content marketing has been around for more than a decade now, and it has evolved into a more and more general term. So when someone says content marketing, they have a very general idea of what it means, but it is not a great description.
