So many people are so addicted to their devices that they can’t even tell that they are using a screen. Just the thought of having a screen on your face leaves you nauseous. That said, we live in a day and age of convenience that so many people just don’t understand. For many people, technology is the only thing keeping them from feeling bored.
Technology is a blessing and a curse. It can make you more productive and more productive means more money for the companies that make it. But it can also make you more disconnected from your friends.
Our technology has come a long way. Back in the mid-90s, I used to work for a hardware company. There was a whole department in that department that made a ton of stuff for PCs – keyboards, mice, and monitors. We kept a lot of these things in our office. They were so cool. Now the only reason we have these things is because we own them. I mean, I still have one of those keyboards and a monitor.
It’s true. As a result of the rise of smartphones, people have become less interested in peripherals. But they are still cool. In fact, when you go out to lunch or dinner with someone, it can be almost impossible to avoid picking up a smartphone or two. And as a result, it can be hard to tell just how much you’ve grown apart from your friends. As for the rest of us, it’s more than likely that we’ve become more disconnected than ever.
Our phones, tablets, and computers have become so integrated into our lives that we haven’t realized how much we rely on them. This is not a new problem, but the way in which our society uses technology has gotten much worse. Because when we first started using our technology, we were in the middle of a revolution. We had a lot of choices. We could be in control or we could be in the middle. We could be free or we could be enslaved.
In the middle was a world where technology was at the mercy of the whims of the people running it. A world where technology could only be used for selfish and oppressive ends. This was an idea so old that it had already killed us. The first time we were given some sort of technology was by the British during the American Revolution. The British gave us the switch and the telephone.
The telephone was a tool that people were able to use for two reasons: to communicate with each other, and to do the most horrible things imaginable. We were also given other tools that were used to torture. As a result, we were able to use technology for the good of humankind.
The problem is that these tools have now become so pervasive in the lives of so many people that they’ve become so integrated into our minds that they are now completely normal. It used to be that we carried the tools with us, and used them as a part of our everyday lives. Now, people are so much a part of technology that we don’t even realize it.
